Boston Invisalign
You might like the end result of having braces on your teeth, but the thought of how they look, the discomfort, and how long you have to wear them might keep you from making the commitment. In greater Boston, Dr. Patricia Burba is a certified provider of Invisalign® invisible braces. These very comfortable, invisible braces straighten your teeth in half the time of traditional braces.
How Invisalign Works
Dr. Burba will take photographs, x-rays and impressions of your teeth, all of which will be used to plan the tooth movements required to straighten your teeth. The impressions are sent to the Invisalign laboratory where they will be used by a computer to make a series of plastic aligners that are custom made for your teeth.

An Invisalign aligner
You'll be given your first set of aligners which you will snap onto your teeth. The aligners won't quite fit because they are designed to move your teeth to a new position. Within the next few days, your teeth will move to the new position. The aligners will loosen, and there will be a rest period for your teeth to adjust to the new position. After two weeks, you'll switch to the next set of aligners. This process will be repeated every two weeks until you've worn all of the aligners. And when you've worn them all, your teeth will be straight.
During your treatment period, you'll have an appointment with Dr. Burba every four to six weeks to monitor the progress and to make slight adjustments, if they are needed.
Advantages of Invisalign
- Treatment time is faster—about half the time of traditional braces.
- At a conversational distance, people can't tell that you're wearing them.
- You can take them off to floss and brush your teeth.
- They are much more comfortable than braces, and won't irritate your teeth and gums.
Disadvantages of Invisalign
- They are more expensive than traditional braces.
- You must be diligent about wearing them exactly as Dr. Burba instructs you. This can be difficult for some teenagers who may lose them or take them off and forget to put them back on.
